When I book a camping trip, I just assume the weather will be wonderful. Most of the time we are lucky. Except for that time last summer in Darby, MT when I heard a siren that I thought was a call for the volunteer fire department. Then I looked up and the sky was greenish black. I realized the siren was actually a tornado warning and that we were standing in a 22 foot trailer. Oops. So we screamed, leashed up the dogs and ran to the only building in sight as fast as our legs could carry us. Had it been an Olympic race, I'm pretty sure I could have won gold. Fortunately the tornado passed us by.
We woke up today to a hot, humid day with threatning skies. We're at Boyd Lake State Park in Northern Colorado. We chose this place because it was just 90 minutes from home and has a huge lake for swimming and boating. We were hoping to get our kayak out but the impending storms led us to come up with a Plan B.
So I consulted the Internet and found some interesting activities in the nearby town of Longmont. We took the dogs for a walk, turned on Rhoda's air conditioning, closed the shades and left Gizmo and Enzo happily relaxing on our bed.
Our first stop was the Longmont Yarn Shoppe. I've followed them on social media for a long time but it was even better in person. It may have been the best yarn shop I've ever seen.
Lucky me. They were having a sale. I couldn't resist two kits that were 50% off. All the yarn I bought was cashmere. Yummy!
Speaking of yummy, our second stop was Cheese Importers. We bought a collection of delicacies to share for dinner. But it was 3:30 and we were hungry.
A late lunch was what we needed so I read off a list of local restaurants to Jamie. No surprise to those of you who know and love him...he chose The Meat Revolution. They make their own gyros and shwarmas and they are incredible. I highly recommend the gyro with the garlic sauce. Heavenly!
We got back to Boyd Lake as the sun emerged. The swimming beach was gorgeous. We plan to bring our kayak over in the morning.
Then the clouds returned.
The result was a beautiful sunset.
Good night from Boyd State Park in Loveland, CO. More adventures to come tomorrow On The Rhoda!
Clouds, shmouds- still looks like a pretty fabulous day! Love you guys- enjoy!
