Our Biggest Adventure...Ever

On a snowy afternoon last winter, I had an idea. Let's take Rhoda from our home in Evergreen, Colorado to the coasts of Oregon and Washington all the way to Cape Flattery, the farthest point in the contiguous 48 states. We'd travel home via the Columbia River Gorge, seeing the dams, waterfalls and tracing the journey of Lewis & Clark backwards.

And maybe we could meet up with our daughter Lindsey & her husband Jon who live in California and camp somewhere wonderful together.

What a grand adventure it could be. I talked about it with Jamie and he was all in.

After countless hours of research, I made reservations, plotted the route and put together an itinerary in a two page spread-sheet. The trip would take nearly 5 weeks and 3,700+ miles to complete. Late August through September seemed to be the best time, especially since the plan includes visiting six National Parks, which are much less crowded after Labor Day. Jamie loved the plan. Lindsey and Jon agreed to meet us at Lake Tahoe for the long Labor Day weekend. Our biggest trip with Rhoda was a go!

Over the rest of the winter, spring and summer I refined our plan. Earlier this week we began loading clothes and food in Rhoda. We set off early this morning headed for Green River, UT where we would spend the first night.

We made a pit stop at the incredible Costco in Gypsum, CO. It is where the folks from Aspen shop so you know it has all the good stuff.

Since Lindsey & Jon live in the remote mountain town of Mammoth, CA, we bought them enormous packages of Kleenex, toilet paper and paper towels. Only the best for our kids!

We pulled into Shady Acres, the finest RV Park in Green River, UT. It ain't pretty but it will do for the night.

Tomorrow we head to Great Basin National Park and then to Ely, NV where we will spend the night, Our biggest adventure on the Rhoda has begun. Stay tuned. This is gonna be epic!

Hi Betsy, good time to have good times on the Rhoda again!

That cognac at Costco fascinates me. Why would an aspenite seek their liquor at discount unless .. they drink a lot of it? But... They do entertain & six 750 ml at $700 savings each would get u 1 free one. Could be a setting for a Cinderella story: e.g. much like in the manner a dog park hater met her husband, clerk meets billionaire. Except billionaires don't do their own shopping; they have servants. Why would Costco carry such an item unless as a convenience for someone stocking up on socks for the winter - was it by the checkout counter? 😉
